MAKING THINGS HAPPEN
My name is Michael Joseph and I currently represent the residents of North Miami Beach on the city commission. I've been working hard, on your behalf, to support working families, forging pathways for more affordable housing, creating better protections for workers, and investing in safe and healthy communities. We are a team and I am proud to represent your interests, address your concerns, and look forward to continuing to work with you. View some of the items accomplished during my first two years in office.
RETURN TO QUARTERLY BILLING
The previous commission made a disastrous decision changing the water bill from quarterly to monthly. This had a negative impact on many residents, including our seniors on a fixed income. Thankfully, in September 2019, my proposal (Ordinance No. 2019-3) was adopted and approved, to restore quarterly billing by NMB water.
EXPUNGEMENT, SEAL AND IMMIGRATION
Assisted with over 200 expungement, seal, and immigration cases for residents of North Miami Beach and Miami-Dade County. This expo helped members of the community to secure jobs without fear of application rejection due to past mistakes and restore the right to vote for many.
LOWER PROPERTY TAXES
The voting commission lowered the cities millage rate by 6%. The 6th lowest in Miami-Dade County. With the emergence of COVID-19, we see the need to lower taxes and the cost of other essential services.
WASHINGTON PARK IMPROVEMENTS
I fought for and secured over $200,000 from Miami-Dade County for the construction of the community center in the Washington Park neighborhood. We must continue to invest funds and resources into this historical community.
NMB WATER ASSISTANCE
The voting commission implemented a policy to assist residents who have fallen behind in bill payments that were excessive. This was great foresight on behalf of the leaders on the dais. Through this pandemic, we see now, more than ever, the need to have programs to assist residents who have fallen behind because of circumstances out of their control.
LOWER CRIME RATE
Together, we lowered the crime rate in North Miami Beach by 10.4%, helping to create a safer community. We will continue to have a just police department that keeps all residents safe.
When FEMA failed to reimburse the city for 2018 hurricane relief, Michael went to DC and spoke directly with FEMA and secured almost $2 million to support the city and her residents.
HELPING SMALL BUSINESSES
Michael personally worked with small business owners in North Miami Beach to assist them in receiving financial assistance through the CARES Act
